We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our amazing weekend team!
The role is to primarily provide Nurse consultations and other general Nursing duties to include ward Nursing, anaesthesia monitoring, patient preparation for surgery, theatre Nursing, surgical Nursing (Schedule 3) patient recovery, and pharmacy duties. Our Nurses are fully utilised in practice, and we always strive to support their development through practical skill training, in house CPD and external CPD and courses. Shifts are Saturday and Sunday 8.30am to 6pm. Duties include consulting, anaesthesia and inpatient care alongside general Nursing duties.
You will form part of or weekend team consisting of two consulting Vets, an inpatient/emergency Vet, another RVN and a Veterinary Care Assistant. This weekend role could be flexible for the right candidate to include some weekdays also. Our out of hours service is covered by our own team of Vets and Nurses within our Loanhead branch. There will be no out of hours duties for this role.
ICR Vets is a first opinion small animal group working from four successful branches across the Midlothian area. We have a growing team of over 23 Registered Veterinary Nurses and counting! Some of our Nurses hold Cert VN ECC awards, others are sitting mixtures of behaviour, exotics and medical certifications. We are always learning and always developing! We have over 27 Vets, including those with certificates in medicine, emergency and critical care and dermatology and more being undertaken in surgery and behaviour. We also have a board-certified exotic Vet and are expanding our exotics service.
We have all the hospital gadgets you could wish for, including digital x-ray, ultrasound, multiparameters, dopplers, fluid pumps, syringe drivers, blood gas analysis, biochemistry and haematology analysers, laser therapy machines, tonopens, the list goes on and on!
We are proud to provide a successful laparoscopy (keyhole) service to our clients with daily keyhole procedures taking place. We are an enthusiastic team who have a strong drive to improve practice standards and clinical excellence.

Our Loanhead branch is located just a five-minute walk from Straiton retail park which has an abundance of shopping and retail outlets. Straiton is well connected to all transport links. A twenty-minute bus ride from Straiton will see you into the beautiful city centre of Edinburgh. The Loanhead area is also on the edge of the Pentland hills regional park which has an abundance of fantastic walks and climbs. There is a ski centre located at Hillend for those interested in learning this winter sport. The Loanhead area has an abundance of activities available which are suitable for those of all interests, so you will always find a way to entertain and recharge after work.
The ICR Family now has over 23 Nurses and 27 Vets, with 5 VCA's, two practice managers, four Clinical Directors, 18 receptionists and support staff. Students are regularly welcomed to the practice, and we currently have three SVNs undertaking their training with the support of their clinical coaches at ICR.
About the Team and Culture
Our team has Certificate holders in Medicine and Emergency and Critical care with more being undertaken in Behaviour, Surgery and Exotics. All training is fully supported and encouraged by the practice. We are a community-based practice and regularly take part in local fund-raising events and gala days. We create a yearly ICR Christmas Calendar with all proceeds going to a new selected charity each year. We also run a Community Nursing service where clients can request post-operative care, medication assistance and other treatments from our team in the comfort of their own homes.
The successful applicant will be registered with the RCVS and ideally have previous experience in a Consulting Nurse role. This role will require excellent communication and client facing skills, with good time keeping, problem solving and organisational skills.
