Inspiring the next generation of veterinary professionals
August 04, 2026
At inspiring vet care, we're passionate about inspiring the next generation of veterinary professionals and making careers within our industry accessible to everyone. That's why we were delighted to sponsor Animal Aspirations Day 2026, an event dedicated to helping young people discover the wide range of opportunities available across the veterinary profession.
Animal Aspirations is a student-led widening participation organisation based at the Royal Veterinary College. Its mission is to make veterinary and animal-related careers more accessible to young people from all backgrounds by breaking down barriers to entry, challenging misconceptions about the profession and providing meaningful opportunities to explore career pathways.
Supporting initiatives like Animal Aspirations helps ensure that talented young people, regardless of their background or circumstances, have the opportunity to explore careers in veterinary medicine and realise their potential.
Following a year's break, Animal Aspirations returned with its biggest event to date, welcoming 30 students from Years 7 to 11 from schools across London. Built around the principles of educating, inspiring and diversifying the profession, the day introduced students to careers they may never have previously considered.
The feedback from the Animal Aspirations team was incredibly positive. Throughout the day, students took part in a series of interactive workshops designed to bring veterinary medicine to life through practical experiences rather than traditional classroom learning.
One of the highlights was a cardiology workshop led by Dr Emily Bowcock, where students explored the anatomy and function of the heart using virtual reality technology alongside live demonstrations with her dog, Bella. An ophthalmology session delivered by Dr Serena Maini gave students the opportunity to see specialist equipment in action, with her dog, Kea, helping demonstrate routine eye examinations.
Students also worked through a veterinary clinical case study led by Animal Aspirations' student ambassadors. Using X-rays, models and practical equipment, they followed the journey of an injured dog from initial consultation through to surgery and recovery, gaining an insight into the many professionals involved in delivering veterinary care.
Alongside the student programme, parents attended a dedicated information session delivered with colleagues from the Royal Veterinary College. The session focused on university applications, UCAS, widening participation initiatives and the support available to students considering a career in veterinary medicine. According to the organisers, parents found the session invaluable and left with a much clearer understanding of the application process.
This year's event also introduced Animal Aspirations' first professional networking session, bringing together representatives from across the veterinary profession, including the Royal Veterinary College, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, the British Veterinary Association, veterinary practices and widening participation organisations. The session focused on improving access to veterinary careers, increasing diversity within the profession and exploring how organisations can work together to remove barriers for aspiring veterinary professionals.
At Inspiring Vet Care, we know that attracting the best talent starts long before graduation. By supporting outreach initiatives like Animal Aspirations, we're helping to inspire future generations, broaden access to our profession and ensure that talented individuals from every background have the opportunity to succeed.
Our sponsorship helped fund workshop resources, student travel expenses, refreshments, professional photography and the student ambassadors who supported the event throughout the day. Importantly, providing travel reimbursement helped remove financial barriers, ensuring more young people were able to attend regardless of their circumstances.
The feedback shared by the Animal Aspirations team highlighted just how much the students valued the interactive nature of the event. The live animal demonstrations and virtual reality experiences were among the most memorable parts of the day, while the practical workshops encouraged students to ask questions, build confidence and gain a better understanding of the many career opportunities available within the veterinary profession.
The Animal Aspirations Day is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when universities, professional bodies, employers and volunteers work together with a shared purpose. We're proud that Inspiring Vet Care was able to support an initiative that is helping build a more diverse, inclusive and accessible future for our profession.
A huge thank you to everyone at Animal Aspirations, the workshop leaders, student ambassadors and partner organisations who made the day such a success. We look forward to seeing the event continue to grow and to supporting future initiatives that inspire the next generation of veterinary professionals.
