Glenshane Veterinary Clinic has an exciting opportunity for a Mixed Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly team, working across our Maghera, Kilrea, and Dungiven branches. This role is perfect for a Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys the variety of working with different species—65% of the work involves farm animals (with a bit of equine), while 35% focuses on companion animals.

We’re looking for a confident Veterinary Surgeon with experience in both farm and companion animal work. As we frequently visit our farm clients, a valid driving license is essential for the role.

About Glenshane Veterinary Clinic

Our team consists of 6 Veterinary Surgeons, including 4 with over 20 years of experience, supported by a dedicated Veterinary Nursing and Support team.

We operate from three branches, located at the foot of the picturesque Sperrin Mountains. Two of our branches are equipped with farm animal handling facilities, and our main branch is fully equipped for both farm and small animal practice. Our tools include easy scan, small animal ultrasound, IDEXX lab station, X-ray, endoscope, ECG, and more. We also have excellent kenneling and stabling facilities, a small ruminant operating table, and a horse stock.

In our small animal practice, we handle routine consults, internal medicine cases, soft tissue surgery, some orthopaedics, and any emergency surgeries that arise. While we mostly treat cats, dogs, and small furries, we occasionally see reptiles and birds as well!

If you're looking for a role with a supportive team and a varied caseload in a beautiful rural setting, we'd love to hear from you!

We care about your work life balance

We offer flexible working patterns that flex with you and your lifestyle. Whether you are looking to flex your rota hours to balance the school holidays, fix to navigate the school runs or just looking to strike that balance between home and work life. We can offer flexibility that works for all team members.

The standard full-time vet rota consists of a 40-hour week, working 1 weekend in 4 with a long weekend off in lieu the following week. There is an OOH requirement to work 1 night per week on call, in the winter months and 1 night per week every fortnight, in summer months. Although this is advertised as a full-time role, we are open to both full time and part time applications.

Life beyond work

Nestled in the Sperrin mountains there is so much to explore.  Maghera is a charming town brimming with history, natural beauty, and a warm community spirit. While it may not be as well-known as some of its neighbouring cities, Maghera offers a delightful array of activities and attractions. Whether you're a history buff, an outdoor enthusiast, or simply looking for a peaceful retreat, Maghera has something for everyone.

Nature lovers and adventurers will be drawn to the Sperrin mountains. They offer breathtaking views and numerous opportunities for hiking and exploring. Our spectacular North Coast and the Giant Causeway are only 45min drive away.

If you are looking for city life, we are a short 40 minute drive to Derry or Belfast and 30 minutes gets you to the closest airport.
