If you’ve always wanted to work with animals and be part of a team that genuinely cares, this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.
At Gorey Veterinary Hospital, we’re more than just a practice – we’re a close-knit, compassionate team who take pride in giving every pet the highest standard of care. We’re now looking for a kind, reliable and enthusiastic Animal Care Assistant to join us and play a hands-on role in supporting both our patients and our people.
This is a role where your work really matters, every single day.
You’ll be working full-time, 40 hours per week across five days, with a shared 1 in 4 Saturday rota (9:00am–2:30pm). There’s no Sunday or bank holiday work, giving you a consistent routine and a good work–life balance.
The role is varied, busy and incredibly rewarding. You’ll spend your time supporting the day-to-day care of animals in the practice, while also helping the wider team keep everything running smoothly.
As an Animal Care Assistant, you’ll be right at the heart of the practice. You’ll help care for our patients day-to-day, feeding, exercising and ensuring they’re comfortable, clean and well looked after during their stay with us.
You’ll also play an important role in maintaining high hygiene standards throughout the clinic, making sure all areas are clean, organised and ready for use.
This role isn’t just behind the scenes. You’ll also support front-of-house when needed, welcoming clients, answering calls, booking appointments and providing a friendly, reassuring experience for pet owners.
Whether you’re assisting the clinical team or helping at reception, you’ll be an essential part of creating a calm, caring environment for everyone who walks through our doors.
Gorey Veterinary Hospital is a long-established practice that has recently undergone significant investment, creating a modern and well-equipped clinical environment. Our facilities include digital radiography, ultrasound, multiparameter monitors and upgraded equipment throughout the practice, allowing us to deliver a high standard of care.
You’ll be joining a supportive and friendly team, including dedicated reception staff who help keep the day running smoothly. We pride ourselves on teamwork, respect and creating a positive workplace where everyone feels valued and encouraged to grow.
We’re searching for someone who is naturally compassionate, patient and calm, with a genuine love for animals. This role can be emotionally demanding at times, so being able to handle sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism is important. You’ll need to be reliable, organised and comfortable working in a busy environment where priorities can change quickly. Strong communication skills and a team-focused attitude are essential, as you’ll be working closely with both colleagues and clients.
A qualification in Animal Care (such as QQI or equivalent) is required, and while previous experience in a veterinary or animal care setting would be a big advantage, it’s not essential for the right person with the right attitude.
We offer a competitive salary along with great benefits, including:
Leave: Annual Leave, Birthday Leave, Paid Maternity, Paternity, Bereavement, & Sick Leave
Wellbeing: Cycle to Work Scheme, EAP Access, Free Flu Jabs, Discounts (Retail), & Access to Company Programmes (LGBTQ+, Wellbeing, etc.)
Career Development: Career Progression, Leadership Academy, Paid Professional Memberships (VCI & VDS), Annual Pay Reviews
Financial Support: Employer Pension Contributions, Discounted Staff Pet Veterinary Fees
We’re committed to helping our team grow, with opportunities for career progression, ongoing development and annual pay reviews. Additional benefits include pension contributions and discounted veterinary care for your own pets.
If you’re passionate about animal welfare and want to be part of a supportive, hardworking team where you can make a real difference, we’d love to hear from you.
