The Well Pet Hospital in Sligo is looking for a Veterinary Nurse to join our friendly and experienced team on a 12-month contract. This is a brilliant opportunity for nurses at all stages of their career, whether you are newly qualified and eager to learn or already experienced and looking for a fresh challenge in a supportive hospital setting.
You will be joining a well-established, modern small animal hospital where nursing plays a central role in patient care. From day one, you will be trusted, supported, and encouraged to develop your skills in a team that values what you do.
This is a varied and hands-on role where no two days feel the same. You will rotate across hospital nursing, surgical support, nurse consultations, and reception duties, giving you a well-rounded and engaging experience.
Your day to day work will include anaesthetic monitoring, inpatient care, surgical nursing, nurse clinics, and triage. You will work closely with both vets and fellow nurses, contributing to a high standard of care and a smooth-running practice. The role suits someone who enjoys being busy, likes variety, and takes pride in delivering excellent care to both patients and clients.
This is a full-time role working 40 hours across a 4-day week. Shifts are 10 hours long and rotate between early and later starts during the week, with a shared Saturday rota currently 1 in 4. There is no out-of-hours work, no Sundays, and no bank holidays, making this a role that genuinely supports a healthy work life balance.
You will be joining a close knit and experienced team made up of 5 Veterinary Surgeons, 5 Veterinary Nurses, and 3 receptionists. Several team members hold additional certificates, and there is a strong culture of learning and supporting one another. The practice itself is bright, spacious, and purpose-built, with excellent facilities including dental equipment, x-ray, ultrasound, and separate dog and cat wards. There is also a dedicated nurse consulting room, allowing nurses to fully utilise their skills.
Located just outside Sligo town, the practice offers the best of both worlds with easy access to beaches, walks, and a vibrant local community.
This role is open to both experienced nurses and graduates looking to build confidence in a supportive setting. You will need to be VCI registered and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. A positive attitude, strong communication skills, and a genuine interest in developing your nursing career are key. Experience in areas such as anaesthesia, inpatient care, and consultations is beneficial, but full support and training will be provided for the right person.
At The Well Pet Hospital, your development is taken seriously. You will be given the opportunity to continue learning through hands-on experience, supported by a team that wants to see you succeed. Whether you are building core skills or refining existing ones, you will be supported every step of the way.
