Sheriff’s Highway Vets are looking for a confident vet to join our thriving multi-site practice in Tyne and Wear. With a large clinical team, modern equipment and a varied first opinion caseload, this is a fantastic opportunity to develop your career while helping to support and mentor newer graduates.
We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon who is confident working sole charge and enjoys supporting less experienced colleagues. You’ll enjoy a varied caseload across consultations, surgery and diagnostics, with opportunities to develop your clinical interests and pursue further qualifications with full support.
You will be based primarily at our main Gateshead hub while also working across our branches in Sunderland, Ryton and Whickham, providing exposure to a diverse caseload and collaborative team environment.
Fix or Flex – find your perfect balance
Full-time vets work an average 40-hour week, structured to support a positive work-life balance. This consists of 38 hours across four weekdays with a set day off each week, plus a one in three Saturday rota. Saturdays alternate between a full day at the main Gateshead hub from 8am to 5pm and a morning consulting shift at a branch from 9am to 12 midday. We understand the importance of flexibility and are happy to discuss working patterns where possible.
About us
We are a long-standing four-site practice with our main hub located in Gateshead and branches in Sunderland, Ryton and Whickham. Our practice is well equipped to support a high standard of clinical care, with modern diagnostic and surgical equipment including doppler ultrasound, ECG, digital radiography, dental x-ray, endoscopy, laparoscopic surgical equipment and orthopaedic surgical facilities, alongside a comprehensive in-house laboratory.
You will be joining a large and collaborative team of 14 veterinary surgeons, supported by experienced nursing and support colleagues. Our culture is built around knowledge sharing, collaboration and continuous development, and we are proud to provide an environment where clinicians can grow their skills, pursue further study and feel supported in their professional development.
