We’re excited to welcome a Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join our large, supportive multi-branch practice across the Isle of Man. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced veterinary surgeon looking to take the next step into a clinical leadership role within a progressive and collaborative environment.
As Lead Veterinary Surgeon, you’ll play a key role in shaping the clinical direction of the practice while continuing to work within a varied and rewarding caseload spanning consultations, surgery, and emergency and critical care. You’ll be supported by an experienced multidisciplinary team and have the opportunity to influence clinical standards, mentor colleagues, and contribute to the ongoing development of the practice.
As part of our commitment to welcoming new team members, we offer a welcome bonus of 10% of your salary at the end of year one and a further 10% at the end of year two, up to a maximum of £10,000 total.
Our practice operates across five sites on the Isle of Man, providing high-quality first opinion veterinary care within a collaborative and progressive clinical environment.
Our practice includes:
A team of 17 Veterinary Surgeons, 14 Registered Veterinary Nurses, and 20 dedicated support staff
Certificate holders in GP Cert Small Animal Medicine and Cert AVP Sheep
A visiting cardiology specialist supporting advanced case management
Team members currently pursuing certifications in ophthalmology, exotics, and postgraduate studies
A varied caseload including consultations, surgery, and emergency and critical care
Strong nurse-led clinics including health checks, post-operative care, vaccinations, and wellness appointments
Ongoing investment in facilities and equipment to support advanced in-house diagnostics and treatment

As Lead Veterinary Surgeon, you will be the most senior veterinary clinician within the practice, responsible for leading clinical standards, governance, and the delivery of outstanding patient and client care.
You’ll provide clinical leadership to the veterinary team, oversee complex cases, and act as the primary source of clinical guidance and decision-making within the practice. Working closely with the senior practice leadership team, you’ll support the strategic direction of the practice and drive continuous improvement in clinical quality, outcomes, and ways of working.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading clinical standards and promoting best practice across the veterinary team
Managing a varied caseload including consultations, surgery, and complex medical work-ups
Providing mentorship, coaching, and day-to-day support to veterinary colleagues
Supporting clinical governance, quality improvement initiatives, and case reviews
Working collaboratively with nursing and support teams to ensure excellent patient care
Supporting the ongoing development of clinical services and team capability
Acting as a senior clinical point of contact for complex cases and client discussions
Encouraging a positive, collaborative, and learning-focused team culture
Working pattern:
Full-time role: 38 hours per week
Worked over 4–5 days
1 in 4 Saturday morning rota
Approximately 1 in 10 nights and weekend on-call commitments

You are a highly experienced veterinary surgeon with strong clinical expertise and a passion for leadership and clinical excellence. You’ll bring:
A Veterinary degree and registration with the RCVS
Significant experience within small animal practice, with confidence in both medical and surgical cases
Proven experience mentoring, coaching, and supporting veterinary colleagues
Strong leadership, communication, and clinical decision-making skills
Experience contributing to clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement initiatives
The ability to manage complex cases and support challenging clinical discussions
