At Grange Hill Veterinary Centre, we’re looking for a Lead Vet to help shape the future of our practice! Here, you’ll find not only excellent clinical opportunities but also a genuinely supportive work environment. The role offers a well-balanced and exciting caseload, split between surgery and medicine. For those who may need it, we can provide temporary accommodation in a self-contained one-bedroom flat located next door to the practice. Ideally, the role will be working 40 hours per week over 4 days, along with 1:4 Saturdays.
 

How You’ll Make a Difference

As Lead Veterinary Surgeon, you will be the most senior veterinary clinician within the practice, responsible for leading clinical standards, governance, and the delivery of outstanding patient and client care.

You’ll provide clinical leadership to the veterinary team, oversee complex cases, and act as the primary source of clinical guidance and decision-making within the practice. Working closely with the senior practice leadership team, you’ll support the strategic direction of the practice and drive continuous improvement in clinical quality, outcomes, and ways of working.

For this role, you would spend around 80% of your time  working in Practice clinically, working across a varied case load from consults to surgery, and the remaining  20 %  of time, You’ll play a key Leadership role supporting and developing our current team of experienced vets and nurses, helping build confidence of our new grad vet and leading clinical discussions.

There will be opportunity to work alongside the Director of Practice to influence and support the growth and direction of the practice, maintaining our high clinical standards and help drive the business forward. 
 

About us

One of our biggest strengths is our tight knit team, consisting of 2.5 permanent vets,1 head RVN, 4 RVNs, 1 SVN, 2 receptionists and 1 Director of Practice. With Grange Hill, you’ll have a fine array of equipment at your disposal including: 4 spacious consult rooms, a fully equipped operating theatre, imaging room with ultrasound and X-ray machines, we have brand new Dental X-ray facilities too, with lots of natural daylight throughout the practice. Our internal lab is extensive and allows us to give same day results for many tests. We also have a euthanasia room separate from our main building where clients and their pets can have the time and privacy needed when saying goodbye to their beloved pet. Our OOH is Pool House Veterinary Hospital which is only a short drive away. We are nestled in the countryside on the outskirts of Lichfield and have a good-sized free carpark, and a separate staff kitchen area, with outside seating to be able to enjoy on your breaks.

You are a highly experienced veterinary surgeon with strong clinical expertise and a passion for leadership and clinical excellence. You’ll bring:

 
  • A Veterinary degree and registration with the RCVS with significant experience in small or mixed animal practice, including advanced surgical and medical capability
  • Proven experience in mentoring, coaching, and supporting veterinary colleagues
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
  • Experience contributing to or leading clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement initiatives
  • The ability to manage clinical complaints and provide professional guidance in complex situations
  • Professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to the highest standards of patient and client care
