Lakeside Veterinary Centre is seeking an experienced, surgically biased Veterinary Surgeon to join our team on a 12-month maternity cover contract. This is a fantastic opportunity for a vet who genuinely enjoys small animal surgery and is looking to further develop their practical skills in a well-equipped, supportive hospital setting.
The role offers a strong surgical caseload alongside a complementary level of first opinion GP work, providing both variety and clinical satisfaction. You will have the autonomy to manage your cases while being supported by a collaborative and experienced team.
Located on the scenic shores of Loughrea Lake, our purpose-built hospital combines a calm, welcoming environment with excellent clinical facilities. You will have access to two dedicated small animal theatres, a spacious prep area and well-equipped consultation rooms, all designed to support high standards of care and efficient workflow.
You will be joining a friendly and knowledgeable team, including colleagues with advanced qualifications who are always happy to collaborate and share expertise. Our nursing team is highly skilled and hands-on, ensuring you are fully supported throughout your day, particularly within surgery.
This is a practice where teamwork is valued, communication is open, and clinical standards are consistently high.
This position is ideally suited to a vet who is confident and capable in small animal surgery within a busy first opinion setting. You will be comfortable performing a range of procedures independently and will enjoy working in a role where surgery is a key focus of your week. The working pattern offers a great balance, with four days per week and a 1 in 4 Saturday rota.
We are keen to hear from Veterinary Surgeons who are VCI registered and bring solid experience in small animal practice, particularly in surgery. You should be confident managing surgical cases without the need for routine support and enjoy being a reliable, capable presence within a team.
A certificate in Small Animal Surgery would be highly advantageous, although not essential for the right candidate. Most importantly, you will bring a genuine enthusiasm for surgery and a commitment to delivering excellent patient care.
Alongside a competitive salary, you will benefit from a supportive working environment where your contribution is valued and your wellbeing is prioritised. The package includes generous annual leave with a paid day off for your birthday, access to wellbeing supports such as an Employee Assistance Programme, and practical benefits including pension contributions, cycle to work scheme and discounted veterinary fees.
You will also be supported in your professional development through a CPD allowance, paid CPD days and access to further training opportunities, allowing you to continue building your surgical expertise.
If you’re looking for a rewarding surgical role in a welcoming team, set in a beautiful location, this is a fantastic opportunity to step into a position where you can truly make an impact while continuing to grow your skills. We would love to hear from you.
