Veterinary Practitioner – Small Animal

Rathcoole Veterinary Clinic, Dublin

Full-time, Permanent

Salary commensurate with experience

Build Something That’s Truly Yours

Rathcoole Veterinary Clinic is offering a rare opportunity for an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon who is ready to step into a role with real autonomy, influence and long-term potential. This is a position for a confident, self-motivated clinician who enjoys first-opinion practice, values strong client relationships and wants the satisfaction of shaping how a local practice grows and evolves.

If you’re looking for a role where your judgement is trusted, your ideas are welcomed and your clinical standards genuinely matter, this could be an exciting next step in your career.

A Role Designed Around Balance and Progression

This is a no out-of-hours position with a structured rota that protects your time off and supports a healthy work-life balance. You’ll have the freedom to focus on delivering excellent clinical care without the pressure of emergency cover, while still enjoying a varied and rewarding caseload.

Professional development is actively encouraged. Full funding is available for certificates, diplomas or PhD pathways you may wish to pursue, alongside a generous annual CPD allowance. You’ll also receive an annual contribution of €1,100 towards a patient case of your choice, allowing you to follow a case through to the very best possible outcome and develop areas of clinical interest.

Clinical Autonomy With Support Behind You

This is a sole-charge role and is therefore ideally suited to an experienced clinician who is comfortable managing first-opinion consultations, routine surgical procedures and medical case work independently. It offers the opportunity to truly make the practice your own, whether that means developing a clinical niche, refining workflows or shaping the client experience.

You’ll be supported on site by two dedicated veterinary nurses and will be the responsible vet on duty, leading clinical decision-making and setting standards of care. While the role offers independence, you will never be isolated. As part of a wider network of practices, you’ll have access to experienced colleagues for advice and an established internal referral pathway for more complex cases.

A Stepping Stone Into Leadership

For those considering leadership in the future, this role offers valuable exposure to practice development and decision-making without stepping away from hands-on clinical work. You’ll work closely with your Director to develop services, explore improvements and gain insight into the operational side of practice life, making this an excellent foundation for future leadership opportunities if that’s where your interests lie.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a Veterinary Surgeon registered with the VCI, who has solid experience in first-opinion small animal practice. You’ll be confident in routine surgery, medical work-ups and sole-charge responsibilities, with strong communication skills and a genuine commitment to building long-term relationships with clients and colleagues alike.

This role is not suitable for new graduates or vets requiring close daily mentorship, but is ideal for someone ready to take ownership and thrive in an autonomous, trusted position.
