Full Time, Part Time, Flexible

Salary up to £60,000 DOE

Apply
For the first time in almost ten years, we’re looking to welcome a confident Veterinary Surgeon to join our close-knit team at The Vet Centre. We’re looking for someone who is genuinely capable across all areas of first-opinion practice and comfortable taking sole charge when needed. If you enjoy a role that’s varied, hands-on, and truly rewarding, this could be the perfect next step.

Where First Opinion Really Means Fun, Fulfilling Work

We believe general practice doesn’t have to feel repetitive. With us, you’ll build and stretch your skills in a supportive but independence-driven environment. We want someone who’s keen to progress, improve, and enjoy the daily variety that walks, or hops, through the door.

A Welcoming Hospital You’ll Love Working In

Our main hospital sits within a converted house, offering a cosy, friendly environment that clients genuinely appreciate. You’ll have separate cat and dog waiting areas, two vet consult rooms, and a dedicated RVN consult room. The clinical space includes a well-organised prep area, a theatre, a dedicated x-ray room with dental x-ray facilities, a full IDEXX lab suite, and a dispensary just off reception. There’s also a peaceful office for admin time and a lovely conservatory kitchen complete with tea, coffee, a Nespresso machine, and always a good stash of biscuits.

Although most of your time will be at the hospital, you’ll also work occasionally at our rural branch, where you’ll take sole charge with confidence and autonomy.

A Caseload That Keeps Things Interesting

Our patients range from cats, dogs, rabbits, and small furries to the occasional chicken or wildlife case brought into the branch. We enjoy a healthy balance of consults and surgeries and a diverse caseload that keeps your days purposeful and engaging.

Clinical Equipment That Supports You to Do Your Best Work

We’re proud of the quality of care we offer. Our surgeries include cardiac scans, endoscopy (rhinoscopy & otoscopy), and laparoscopy where over 90% of our spays are keyhole. We invest in equipment that genuinely improves outcomes: bipolar diathermy, harmonic scalpels, and Enseal. Dental work is a pleasure rather than a chore, with dental x-rays at both sites, air-driven equipment, sharp instruments, and Vet-tome. And when specialist referral is the right choice, we have excellent pathways in place.

A Work–Life Balance That Works

This is a 12-month FTC for either 4 or 4.5 days per week, with just 1 in 5 Saturday mornings (8:30am–12:30pm) and time off in lieu. There are no OOH duties as our trusted colleagues at Hart Vets and Vets Now take over, giving clients reliable options while ensuring your evenings stay your own.

A Supportive, Skilled Team Around You

You'll be joining a friendly team of 6 vets, 5 RVNs, 2 SVNs, and a brilliant 4-strong client care team. If you're interested in completing a certificate, we’re more than happy to support you.

Community matters to us. Cats Protection is our primary charity partner, and we regularly support local cat charities, the RSPCA, Guide Dogs for the Blind, and many others. Being part of our team means being part of something bigger.
