We are delighted to offer a rare opportunity for a Lead Vet to work with the Practice Director to lead our Clinical Team at The Oak Veterinary Group. Our practice is based in beautiful part of West Wales in Pembrokeshire surrounded by the most stunning coastal and countryside that Wales has to offer – the extent of recreational advantages along with breath-taking scenery the best location offering 186 miles the longest and oldest established section of the Wales Coastal Path passing by 58 beaches and 14 harbours!


This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to combine clinical excellence with strategic leadership, helping shape the future of a well-established practice. You will work alongside a supportive team including a Senior Vet, six Veterinary Surgeons, a Head RVN leading RVNs, Student Nurses and Animal Care Assistants, a Practice Director, Reception Coordinator, dedicated client care team, and a Hydrotherapy Rehab Coordinator. The team also includes an Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery, enabling complex orthopaedic and soft tissue procedures to be performed in-house, with several vets additionally trained in acupuncture.


You’ll manage a strong clinical caseload (around 75%) with leadership responsibilities, supporting and mentoring a skilled team while helping shape the future direction of the practice. The role offers real scope to influence clinical standards, team development, and overall practice growth in a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.

How You’ll Make a Difference 

 

As a Primary Care Veterinary Surgeon, you’ll work collaboratively with the wider practice team to deliver a high standard of patient and client care across a varied and rewarding caseload. 
 
You’ll continue to develop your clinical skills and interests while sharing your knowledge and experience with colleagues, contributing positively to the clinical culture of the practice. You’ll be an integral member of the clinical team, delivering excellent care and supporting the ongoing development of those around you. 


Key Responsibilities:
•    Lead and support the clinical team, working closely with the Practice Director
•    Deliver high standards of clinical care across a varied caseload (consults and surgery)
•    Mentor and develop less experienced vets, supporting case discussions and workups
•    Contribute to driving the practice forward, team engagement, and a positive practice culture
•    Support business performance, operational success, and practice growth


Working Pattern:
•    Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
•    Shifts between 8:00am–7:00pm (Monday–Friday) on a rota basis
•    Saturday mornings (8:30am–1:30pm) on a rotational basis
•    Primarily based at Haverfordwest with rotation across branch sites

You are a confident and motivated veterinary surgeon who enjoys working as part of a team and is committed to delivering high-quality patient and client care. You’ll bring: 
 
•    A Veterinary degree and registration (or eligibility to register) with the RCVS
•    Experience working in clinical practice with growing confidence in routine medical and surgical cases 
•    Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues 
•    A proactive approach to learning, with openness to feedback and development 
•    Professionalism, reliability, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
