An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced veterinary surgeon to join our well-established friendly and supportive team. Your time will be split between consulting, surgery, medical procedures, imaging, and dentistry, with the opportunity to focus on areas of interest to you!
About the Practice
Sheriff’s Highway is a multi-centre veterinary practice with four locations across Tyne and Wear: Gateshead (main branch), Whickham, Sunderland and Ryton. Our practice is located within easy commuting distance to Newcastle city centre renowned for its culture and social life, the Northeast coastline with multiple award-winning beaches, and the beautiful countryside of Northumberland and County Durham. The area can offer something for everyone!
We have a wide range of high-quality equipment for you to work your patients up to a high standard. As well as the usuals you would expect, we have digital radiography, dental radiography, an excellent ultrasound machine with doppler, flexible and rigid endoscopes, in house lab including haematology, biochemistry and EPOC machines, and a wide range of specialised equipment for performing most soft tissue, orthopaedic, and laparoscopic surgeries.
About the Team
Our main site in Gateshead provides 24-hour emergency cover with a dedicated night emergency and critical care team - so you can enjoy case continuity for your hospitalised patients with no obligation to work a nightshift rota.
Across our branches we have 15 Veterinary Surgeons, 20 RVNs, 2 SVNs, 7 auxiliary nurses, and 10 receptionists. A number of our vets are certificate holders in a variety of disciplines including medicine, surgery, cardiology, and diagnostic imaging, and we are always happy to help and support our colleagues. We have frequent case discussions amongst our vets so you will always find someone happy to discuss cases with you and offer advice. We actively encourage and support further study and CPD in chosen areas of interest.
Fix or flex – find your perfect balance
We know that everyone has demands and priorities outside of their career and we want to make it brilliantly easy for you to strike the right balance. Whether you are looking to fix or flex your work patterns, we can find the right solution for you. Our vets usually work working an average of 41-hours a week. 37 hours over 4 days with a set day off Monday to Friday, 1 in 6 full weekends (Saturday and Sunday 7:45am to 6:15pm), and 1 in 6 Saturday mornings (9am to 12noon). There are no out of hours and we'd be happy to discuss part time working.
