A Proper First-Opinion Role, Done Well

If you’re a confident small animal vet who enjoys varied, good-quality first-opinion work and wants to practise in a supportive, well-run hospital with excellent facilities and colleagues around you, this could be a really nice next step.

Tullamore Pet Hospital is a modern, friendly practice in the heart of the Midlands, offering the best of both worlds: interesting clinical work, a sensible pace, and a genuinely supportive team culture. We’re less than an hour from Dublin, well connected to Galway and Limerick, and surrounded by great outdoor spaces, cafés and affordable living – an ideal base whether you’re settling long-term or relocating for a lifestyle change.

The Role – Varied, Supported, and Sustainable

This is a 100% small animal, first-opinion role with a broad and interesting caseload. You’ll be managing your own consults, working cases up properly, and carrying out routine soft tissue and first-opinion surgical procedures independently. Confidence in routine surgery is essential for this role – you’ll need to be comfortable operating without direct supervision.

On the medical side, you’ll be very well supported. You’ll be working alongside colleagues with certificates in internal medicine and diagnostic imaging, meaning you’ll always have experienced minds to collaborate with on more complex work-ups. If medicine is an area you’d like to develop further, mentorship and support are readily available.

Working patterns are designed to be sustainable. Most vets work a 4.5 day week, with hours typically between 8:30am and 6pm, plus a 1-in-4 Saturday morning rota. You’ll cover one night on-call per week, with weekends and bank holidays fully covered by an external OOH provider.

A Hospital You’ll Enjoy Working In

The practice itself is bright, modern and purpose-built, with everything you need to do your job well. Facilities include in-house laboratory diagnostics, digital radiography, ultrasound and well-equipped theatres, allowing you to practise confidently and efficiently.

The real strength of Tullamore Pet Hospital, though, is the team. You’ll be joining a close-knit, collaborative group of vets, nurses and support staff who genuinely enjoy working together. There’s a strong culture of discussion, shared decision-making and mutual respect – no ego, no hierarchy, just good medicine and good teamwork.

If you have ideas, you’ll be listened to. If you want to grow, you’ll be supported. And if you’re looking for a place where your contribution actually matters, you’ll feel very at home here.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a VCI-registered small animal vet with solid first-opinion experience who can confidently manage their own caseload.

Essential:

  • Confidence in routine small animal surgery without supervision
  • Strong general practice skills and good clinical judgement

  • This role is not suitable for new graduates, but would suit a vet who enjoys being a capable all-rounder and values working as part of a supportive, experienced team.
