Imagine finishing work and heading for the beach, the hills of Connemara, or a café in Galway city – all before the evening is out. At Barna & Moycullen Vets, this is everyday life.
We’re looking for a friendly, capable Veterinary Surgeon to join our small, supportive team on Ireland’s west coast. This is a role for someone who enjoys first-opinion practice, values teamwork, and wants the space to do good medicine without constant pressure or burnout. Whether you’re keen to broaden your experience or simply craving a better pace of life, this position offers both professional fulfilment and lifestyle appeal.
This is a full-time permanent position, working a 36-hour week across four days. The rota is designed with balance in mind and includes 1 in 4 Saturdays, two on-call weeknights per month, and 5–6 weekends per year, including one bank holiday.
Clinically, you’ll enjoy a broad and interesting small animal caseload – consultations, diagnostics, routine surgery and emergency care – all within a calm, collaborative environment. You’ll never feel isolated, with experienced colleagues around you and a team that genuinely looks out for one another.
We’d love to hear from VCI-registered Veterinary Surgeons with at least 12 months’ general practice experience, who are confident in routine first-opinion work and routine surgeries.
You’ll be someone who:
Enjoys managing cases independently when needed
Communicates clearly with clients and colleagues
Takes pride in patient care and clinical standards
Values teamwork, kindness and professionalism
Whether you’re still building confidence or bringing years of experience, there’s room here for you to feel settled, supported, and appreciated.
Nestled between Galway City and the wild beauty of Connemara, Barna & Moycullen Vets has been caring for pets and their families for years with warmth, professionalism, and a personal touch.

Our dedicated team of 4 vets, 4 nurses, and a practice manager foster a supportive, close-knit working environment where collaboration and continuous learning are part of the culture. With a loyal client base and relaxed working pace, you’ll have time to provide thorough, compassionate care - and to enjoy the stunning coastal lifestyle right on your doorstep.
