We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Multidisciplinary Veterinary Nurse to join our team at Moorview Referrals on a full-time basis. This is an exciting opportunity to work across a diverse range of specialist departments, rotating through Medicine, ECC, Wards, Soft Tissue, Orthopaedics, and Imaging, while also gaining exposure to Cardiology, Oncology, and Spinal cases. With such a varied and complex caseload, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to develop your clinical skills, whether you’re an experienced nurse looking to build on your existing knowledge or a newly qualified nurse keen to gain experience with advanced procedures and broaden your knowledge across multiple disciplines. Throughout your development, you’ll be supported by our experienced and friendly team.

Moorview Referrals is a busy, purpose-built referral hospital located in beautiful Northumberland, within easy reach of the stunning coastline and the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne. Our modern facility is equipped to the highest standards, including four operating theatres (one with fluoroscopy), CT and MRI scanners, a new electrochemotherapy machines for oncology patients, multiple ultrasound machines, and advanced endoscopy equipment. We are proud to keep many cases under our care for rehabilitation, as part of our onsite rehab centre we have physio and hydrotherapy equipment allowing pets to continue their treatment.  

We are a large, supportive clinical team with expertise in many different areas, working together to deliver exceptional patient care across a wide range of disciplines. We offer referral services in orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, ECC, and cardiology, providing a varied and rewarding caseload. As an ISFM Gold Standard practice working towards zero pain certification, we are committed to continually raising standards in patient care. 

 

How You’ll Make a Difference

 

As a Multidisciplinary Veterinary Nurse, you will be an integral member of the clinical team, delivering high-quality nursing care to patients while supporting excellent client experiences.  

 

You’ll work a flexible rota covering 40 hours between 6:30 am and 9 pm, with a choice of either 5 x 8-hour shifts or 4 x 10-hour shifts to suit your lifestyle. You’ll also join a 1:5 weekend rota (Saturday and Sunday with TOIL) and take part in our bank holiday and Christmas cover, with occasional support across other departments when needed. We can be flexible if someone would like to work part-time shifts; however, Mondays and weekend shifts are a requirement.  

You’ll be part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, providing exceptional nursing care across a diverse and complex referral caseload while working alongside experienced clinicians across a range of specialist disciplines. This role is ideal for a nurse looking to broaden their clinical expertise, develop new skills and gain valuable experience within a multidisciplinary referral hospital.  

General responsibilities include: 

  

Diagnostic imaging such as CT and radiography 

Monitoring anaesthesia 

Inpatient care including medicating, walking and monitoring of hospitalised patients 

Discharging patients 

Providing perioperative rehabilitation to patients 

Preparing patients for theatre 

Scrubbing into procedures where required

We’re looking for a confident and motivated Multidisciplinary Veterinary Nurse who enjoys working as part of a team and delivering high standards of care. You’ll bring:  

  

Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS  

Experience working in clinical practice, with growing confidence in medical and surgical nursing  

 Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues  

Good organisational skills and the ability to manage workload effectively  

A proactive approach to learning, reflection, and continuous improvement  

This role is well-suited to someone with experience in surgery, anaesthesia (including more complex cases), and out-of-hours work.  

We’re also keen to hear from newly qualified nurses looking to take the next step in their career within a busy referral environment. You will join a large, experienced team who will provide comprehensive training, ongoing support, and plenty of opportunities to develop your skills and explore your areas of interest.
