Maternity Cover Veterinary Surgeon
Hillman Vets, Cannock
Up to £65,000 depending on experience plus benefits

Find a supportive team and a world of opportunity at Hillman Vets!

Day-to-day duties would include consulting and operating. We have 15-minute consultations between 9-11am. Operating would be between 11.00am and 1:30pm. You would have the support of an experienced veterinary nurse and would be expected to perform routine neutering in dogs and cats. We would be happy to support you with larger bitch spays if necessary.

Other surgeries would include dentals, x-rays and simple lump removals but we would of course be guided by your experience and are happy to offer support and training within our experienced team when needed. Consultation then begins again at 2:30pm until 3:30pm with a short break until 4pm. The evening consults are then offered between 4pm and 6:15pm. The working day would end at 6:30pm. Any patients who need overnight care will be transferred to a local Vets now.

About the rota

The rota would include working 4 days a week between 9am and 6.30pm and Saturdays are 1 in 7 working only from 9am until 12.30pm. However we would also welcome applications from those who may be looking for part time hours or to work around family commitments, we're dedicated to tailoring a role that fits your unique needs.

There are no out of hours with this role, as we use a dedicated provider; Vets Now.

Find a place to grow

Hillmans is a 100% SA clinic based in the West Midlands.  The maternity cover role will be based at our Cannock branch, it’s handy for shopping, the new designer outlet, McArthur glen Outlet is just 10 minutes away, and Cannock chase is also on your doorstep, ideal for relaxing family rides through the picturesque forest to the dedicated single-track or follow the dog and the monkey Trail.

As a practice we have many certificate holders, in surgery, diagnostic imaging and ophthalmology and small animal practice.  We have vets with special interests in cardiology, dentistry and dermatology.  We offer laparoscopic bitch spays and laser therapy.

We have a strong team of 11 qualified RVN’s, we are also a training practice with 2 SVN’s and we have 9 FTE vet surgeons.

Our caseload is varied as we have many interests within our team. These include Medicine, Surgery, Cardiology, Diagnostic Imaging, Dermatology, Ophthalmology and Exotic medicine. Laparoscopic bitch spays are also offered at our Arboretum branch. Our nurses run our laser therapy sessions which is an area that is extremely successful. This helps our arthritic patients but also speeds up wound healing and helps manage pain and inflammation in gingivitis cases. We are always discussing cases amongst our team to insure the best clinical outcome is achieved. We often have audits and are involved in benchmark projects to insure we keep up to date. Most things we can manage within house,  however we have a good support network outside of our practice if we need it with some of the local practices in the area and also with Pride referrals when necessary.
