AlphaPet West Meads gains Dog Friendly Clinic status

April 27, 2026

After storm damage required building reconstruction, AlphaPet West Meads has reopened its doors and is now the first practice in the Bognor Regis area to achieve Dog Friendly Clinic status.

What is the Dog Friendly Clinic scheme?

The Dog Friendly Clinic accreditation recognises practices who have worked to improve canine welfare by easing vet visits for dogs. It forms part of the Dog Friendly Clinic Scheme, a joint initiative between Dogs Trust and the British Veterinary Behaviour Association (BVBA) that pledges to reduce canine stress in clinical environments.

AlphaPet dog friendly improvements

AlphaPet West Meads was assessed on a range of practical factors designed to support the emotional wellbeing of dog patients, including separate dog and cat waiting areas, food treats, and tailored examination and handling techniques.

These improvements help foster a calmer experience for fearful, anxious or reactive dogs, helping minimise stress for both patients and clients. They also work to protect colleague safety, ensuring a more positive vet visit all round.

In joining the scheme, the team has also been equipped with knowledge to support and advise owners dealing with behavioural issues at home.

Dog Friendly Advocate with Dogs’ Trust

Katie Morris, Head Nurse and Clinical Supervisor, leads the practice as their dedicated Dog Friendly Advocate. In this role, she champions awareness and understanding of canine behaviour and helps drive a positive experience for dogs visiting the practice.

Katie is also a Fear Free Certified Professional, helping strengthen the team’s approach to managing fear and anxiety in dog and cat patients.

AlphaPet on becoming a dog friendly clinic

On behalf of her practice, Katie shared:

“We’re thrilled to be celebrating the reopening of AlphaPet and couldn’t be prouder of what the team has achieved so far.

“The team and I are so passionate about what we do, and it’s been amazing to re-open our doors, inviting patients to the newly upgraded practice.

“As the team continues to grow, we hope to provide our patients and their owners with the best veterinary care possible.”
