With hot weather taking hold across the UK, Dave Tweedle, Bath Vets Clinical Director and Vice Chair of our Small Animal Clinical Board, has taken to the streets wearing a down jacket to help illustrate why owners shouldn’t walk dogs in hot weather.
Dave donned the jacket in 33 degree heat to make the point that running for just 5 minutes increased his temperature dramatically, helping owners to understand how it might feel for their dogs.
The innovative approach to sharing hot weather expertise has now racked up half a million views after being posted to inspiring vet care social media, and is continuing to climb. Huge thanks to Dave for sacrificing his own comfort to give owners a real example of the dangers of heat!

Just in time for the hot weather, we've also launched our Heat Related Illness Care Framework for our clinicians. We know that we will see an increase in cases and the framework will support the whole team in managing these animals backed by the latest evidence.
The framework details the whole patient journey, from appropriate methods of cooling to key welfare considerations during treatment.
