I've always had a very strong love of animals of all kinds and loved taking care of them. As I got older, I discovered I also had a keen interest in how to care for sick pets - not just at home, but how diseases worked, what they did to the pet and how I could help or what I could do to improve that pet's life.

What made you choose Moorview?

I chose Moorview as it had a long track record of referral cases. I trained in referral and found that was my ideal setting, with the weird and wonderful cases that needed a little more thought and attention. As I worked here, I learned that the team were also utterly fantastic and full of amazing people who make every day a fun experience!

What does a typical day look like for you?

I'm a rotating nurse, so I see every department as part of my role. I love this because it means I can keep a varied workload and get to experience all sides of veterinary nursing. I especially enjoy critical care nursing and lab work, as I find assisting with diagnostics hugely interesting and love learning about how the presence of certain cells or changes in blood work can lead to a diagnosis. I also love a good general anaesthetic!

Tell us a bit about the practice.

Moorview is amazing. The team are always full of fun and there's regularly a humorous conversation happening! They're so supportive as well and are amazing at training people. I love that if there's a case where someone is unsure, the whole team pulls together and shares their experience to find the best solution. We also get the world's best coffee van on a Friday, so how can you ask for more?!

What is your most memorable moment since joining Moorview?

A memorable moment is hard to pin down as there's been so many, but a big one for me was my own dog being diagnosed with a very bizarre sarcoma. I had input from every team and support outpoured from every person. The medicine department handled his mass sampling and kept him comfortable, while the surgery team took over to remove the tumour. The treatment was unbelievable. I still get people asking after him and it really cemented the team spirit here - if something happens, the whole team will rally and support each other. It felt amazing to know that everyone had my back.

Outside of the personal aspect, I also thoroughly enjoyed being taught how to place a central line in a critical patient. My tutor was very patient and kind, and I got a lot of support from other nurses while I was doing it!

Outside of work, what do you do to unwind?

I'm a very avid crocheter with a serious yarn addiction. I also enjoy video games and love to get lost in a fantasy world for a while. I keep everything very animal-related too and love to head out walking with the dogs or walking out with my elderly horse.
