Celebrating National Receptionists’ Day

May 07, 2024

National Receptionists' Day is marked every year on the second Wednesday in May to recognise the many contributions of frontline teams in every industry.

This year, we're marking the day by sharing stories of some of our fantastic reception and client care colleagues from veterinary practices around the UK who play an important role in helping us to achieve our purpose of healthy animals, happy owners.

Nominating colleagues for National Receptionists' Day

We recently shared a message within the business asking for colleagues to nominate veterinary receptionists who make a difference at their practices through exceptional care of clients, their animals, and colleagues.

As the first point of contact, our client care and veterinary reception teams are always there to support clients and facilitate the care of animals throughout their lives. National Receptionists Day is a day for us to say thank you to them, for everything that they do.

Here are just a few examples of the stories that were shared, including Annette Crawshaw (left in image), Jan Mick (centre in image) and Carla Fisher (right in image).

Annette Crawshaw

Annette Crenshaw is one of our veterinary receptionists at Bridge Street Vets in Driffield and was nominated by Practice Manager Amy Winter, who said:

"Annette is an experienced receptionist who offers excellent client communication and care. She greets every client with a warm welcoming smile and is there to help ease any nerves through genuine conversation and reassurance.

"Annette uses her wealth of knowledge to expertly and efficiently triage phone calls and communicates with the whole team in preparation of emergencies. She is always caring and compassionate and she not only thinks about client care and patient welfare but has the teams wellbeing in mind when booking appointments.

"She performs her role exceptionally and is a great mentor to newer members of the team. Annette is a real pleasure to work with!"

Jan Mick

Bishops Veterinary Surgery head receptionist Jan Mick was nominated for National Receptionist Day by Practice Manager Holly Spelzini, who said:

"Jan is empathetic and understanding and always goes above and beyond to help the practice, doing extra hours when we are short staffed and coming up with innovative ideas to improve the way reception runs. She is the beating heart of our reception team."

"Jan is passionate about animal welfare, being a vegan, helping with fostering cats and holding together the veterinary reception team by being an incredible Head Receptionist. We cannot do without her. She is simply a star!"

Carla Fisher

Receptionist Carla Fisher is based at Lawrence Veterinary Centre and was nominated by Practice Manager Helen Sanders who shared:

"Carla is sensitive and kind, taking into consideration the clients’ needs and ensures that their visit to the practice is as comfortable as it can be. Her empathy and connection with the clients helps especially at difficult times.

"Since rejoining the practice in 2022, Carla has taken on the role of training new receptionists that join the practice and is always on hand for advice and support. There is so much to learn especially if the new employee has no veterinary background. Carla is always on hand with advice about FAB, PHC, Care Free Credit and so much more. It is a pleasure to work with Carla and we are lucky to have her in our team."
