Practice spotlight: The Beeches Veterinary Centre

Nestled in the heart of the charming West Country town of Melksham, The Beeches Veterinary Centre is a first-opinion practice committed to providing excellence in animal care.

This dedicated veterinary practice prides itself on fostering a supportive and versatile working environment, where both the team and the community's pets thrive. Just a short distance from the thriving, historic town of Bath, and the beauty of the Cotswolds, it’s a great place to be.

The collaborative spirit of The Beeches is clear, with monthly meetings to discuss cases and implement changes suggested by the team. There’s a focus on the importance of valuing of ensuring job satisfaction for everyone in their role.  Currently seeking a new addition to the team, Area Director Felix Wright shared his perspective:

“The vet surgeon role is ideal for someone seeking more responsibility without the full weight of a clinical director role. We have a strong practice director handling business and strategic aspects. There are opportunities for professional development, including potential support for certifications, especially in surgical fields. With a great practice director and dedicated team, it's an opportunity for someone to be part of an amazing, supportive team in a positive environment.”

At the core of The Beeches is its exceptional nursing team, a group of skilled and confident professionals who play a pivotal role in delivering top-notch care. Areas of specific interest for the nursing team include CertECC ISFM DipFN and soon-to-be NCert AnBehn. With nurses undertaking dental scale and polishing, a dedicated ward nurse, as well as an ops support nurse, the practice runs smoothly.

Practice director Ellen has a long history with the practice, having been part of the team for over 14 years:

“I’ve had great career progression over the last 14 years. I started off as a student veterinary nurse and am now practice director… being part of a smaller team is great as you really get to know everybody on a personal level. You are able to have open conversations and bring ideas”.

The team have access to an internal lab, digital x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopes, and dental x-ray, offering everything they need to provide the best care. Close links with sister practices at Bath Vet Group and Hungerford Vets offer opportunities for collaboration and a wealth of opportunities for shared knowledge and expertise.

There’s support for career development too, with the opportunity to undertake further learning in the form of certification and tailored CPD.

Work/life balance is a priority at The Beeches, with the opportunity to work in a way that fits your schedule and needs, with no out-of-hours or Sunday shifts. There’s a commitment to employee well-being too, with all the competitive benefits that being part of the IVC Evidensia network provides, such as private medical insurance, enhanced family-friendly policies, development opportunities, and a range of benefits from our ‘Pawsome’ scheme including discounts and cashback.

Head nurse Suzanne has been with the practice for over 13 year, and summed up why she feels at home at the practice:

“It’s a lovely place to work. Everyone truly cares for the patients and each other; it’s a really caring and happy place to be.”

For vet surgeons seeking a long-standing and fulfilling career within an excellent team, The Beeches Veterinary Centre is an ideal fit.
