Bruce Bladon to be appointed as President of British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA)

August 23, 2024

Bruce Bladon, clinical director at Donnington Grove Equine Vets, is set to be appointed as BEVA President in September at their annual congress in Liverpool.

He will continue in his position at Donnington Grove, where he has spent the majority of his veterinary career, while taking on his new responsibilities as BEVA President.

After first attending a BEVA CPD meeting as a student, Bruce has been committed to involvement with the organisation which supports equine vets with the aim of driving continual improvement in treatment outcomes and horse welfare.

As president, Bruce will act as a spokesperson on behalf of equine vets on topics including equine surgery, welfare and horse participation in sport. He will also attend a variety of UK and international congresses on behalf of BEVA and intends to continue work to grow affiliate membership from overseas. One of these key interests will focus on antimicrobial usage and resistance in equine medicine.

He said: “In my role as BEVA president I am looking forward to continuing much of the great work the organisation has achieved, while driving focus on issues that continue to gain importance such as antibiotic resistance, and working with young vets to encourage more of them into the equine veterinary profession.

“I’ll continue to see my valued clients at Donnington Grove alongside my new role and driving further engagement with BEVA In the UK and beyond.”

As always, IVC Evidensia will have a stand at BEVA’s annual congress where vets and nurses can meet our team to discuss opportunities in our equine practices across the UK. Back by popular demand following it’s appearance at last ears event, delegates will also have the opportunity to test out their riding skills via an equicizer which simulates what it is like to ride a racehorse.
