Wood Street Vets champion wildlife rehabilitation

Wood Street Vets has been awarded an IVC Evidensia Community Grant of £1,000 which has been donated to the Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service in Enfield, a charity which provides a safe home to wild animals and birds who are sick, injured, or orphaned.
All IVC Evidensia practices can apply for a Community Grant as part of their fundraising efforts for local good causes. Wood Street Vets chose to apply on behalf of the Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service who they often work with in the care of local wildlife.
The charity is run by June and Barry Smitherman, who founded it in 1985. The team are well known in the area for providing a safe home for rescued wildlife, as well as running a rehabilitation programme with the aim to release animals and birds back into to the wild.
The grant will be utilised to rebuild a pen for rescued deer, with the previous one being damaged after a tree fell on the fence. This funding will provide a safe and secure environment to rehabilitate the deer.
Sharing his thoughts about donating the grant to a local wildlife charity, Deputy Head Nurse at Wood Street Vets Daniel Henman said: “We decided to apply for the Grant on behalf of Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service Enfield as they often take in injured wildlife or domestic pets such as chickens and ducks.
“Applying for the grant was our way of saying thank you and giving some recognition for all their amazing work. They never refuse to help animals in need and do a great job of rehabilitating and releasing them where possible."
